Island of Elba

To reach Elba

The connection between the Tuscan coast and the Island of Elba is guaranteed by the 4 shipping companies Blu Navy, Elba Ferries, Toremar, Moby; starting from the port of Piombino Marittima they all reach Portoferraio, the main port of the island, while only Toremar and Moby make the connection also with the villages of Rio Marina and Cavo.

During the tourist season, from April to October, the daily runs are very frequent, guaranteeing a ferry departing every 30/60 minutes. During the rest of the year, the rides are reduced while still guaranteeing a ferry every 3 hours.

The crossing to Portoferraio with the scheduled ferries takes just over an hour, while with the fast ships of the shipping company Elba Ferries about 40 minutes.

For Rio Marina the crossing takes 45 minutes and for Cavo 30 minutes.

For tourists without a car, a very quick option is the hydrofoil of the Toremar company, with which you can reach the stopover port of Cavo in 15 minutes and the Portoferraio terminus in another 15 minutes. We have a collaboration with the Rent Chiappi of Portoferraio for car and scooter rental which is located at the ferry landing.

As for the purchase of tickets, it is always advisable to book the ferry in advance, if you want to embark your vehicle, to be sure to find a place at the desired time.

Normally this is not necessary for foot passengers who can buy the ticket directly at the Piombino ticket office and get on the first departing ferry; from an anti-Covid point of view, however, it is advisable to buy the ticket online in order to avoid waiting at the ticket office, which is quite frequent during the high season.

For those who prefer not to embark the car in Piombino and leave it on the mainland, several guarded paid or free car parks are available in the port area.

From / to Corsica: during the summer, the Elba Ferries company also operates a daily connection between Portoferraio and Bastia. The crossing takes 1 hour and 30 minutes.
